"The Angelic Avengers," published in 1946 under the pseudonym Pierre Andrezel, is actually written by the renowned Danish author Karen Blixen, also known as Isak Dinesen. The novel is a gothic thriller that blends elements of suspense, romance, and philosophical reflection.

The story is set in the 19th century and follows two young women, Lucan Bellamy and Zosine de Valincourt, who are orphans and friends. They find themselves under the guardianship of Reverend Pennhallow and his wife, Mrs. Pennhallow, a seemingly benevolent couple. However, the Pennhallows have sinister plans for the girls, involving them in a plot of psychological manipulation and exploitation.
